Precious
Time
a true story
as recounted by Shirley
My sister shared
this story with me. She had been through a very bad experience
and was upset, sad, discouraged and profoundly unhappy.
She hadn't seen
or spoken to her best friend Jim for several weeks,
when one day he showed up at her door.
He insisted that she get dressed and go riding with him.
So she finally agreed and they set out through the late afternoon sunshine.
While they were riding, they passed a garden filled with vivid flowers.
Jim said "Do you see those flowers?"
"Yes," she replied.
"Do you think that when someone steps on those flowers that the flowers
lie there and feel sorry for themselves?" Jim asked.
"I don't know."
"No, they immediately start to mend their wounds so they can
heal, and grow strong and healthy!"
They rode a little further and Jim pointed up into a tree,
"You see those squirrels up there?

Do you think that when people shoot at them they go hide
forever?"
"I guess not," she said.
Over the next rise the ocean came into view.
Jim said "You see the ocean?
Do you think that when there is a hurricane out there that the
ocean doesn't go back out because it's afraid to face the
storm?"
"No," she said.

"Then, why have you stopped living because you have been hurt?"
This story may hit you like a ton of bricks, as it did me!
The worst part is that Jim died a short time later.
And that was really when the sad young woman realized
how much precious time she had wasted.
Why have you stopped living because you have been hurt?
